High Purity & Dispersibility

Papermaking bentonite is a naturally occurring montmorillonite clay mineral that undergoes specialized purification, modification, and processing. It is primarily used in modern papermaking processes, especially with the increase in recycled paper usage, serving as a critical component of retention and drainage aids and anionic trash catchers. It plays a vital role in improving paper quality, reducing production costs, and enhancing the operational efficiency of the papermaking system.

Purified to have low impurity content, it can quickly disperse in water to form a stable colloidal suspension.
The unique layered structure of montmorillonite gives it an enormous specific surface area (up to 800 m²/g), enabling it to strongly adsorb various ions and molecules in water.
It forms thixotropic gels in water, effectively improving the drainage performance of the paper stock.
While the particle surfaces are negatively charged, the edges are positively charged, allowing it to effectively neutralize "anionic trash" that interferes with production.

Anionic Trash Catcher

Mechanism: CPAM first bridges with negatively charged fibers and fillers to form large microflocs. The subsequently added bentonite penetrates these microflocs and "breaks" them into smaller, stronger flocs.
Effect: Significantly improves the retention of fine components (fillers, fine fibers), saves raw materials, improves paper formation, and reduces the load on the white water system.

Mechanism: The formation of more uniform and denser flocs facilitates the rapid removal of water.

Effect: Increases the dewatering speed on the wire section of the paper machine, thereby increasing machine speed, boosting production, and reducing steam consumption in the drying section.

Mechanism: Recycled pulp contains a large amount of dissolved anionic polymers (e.g., lignin, hemicellulose) that can consume cationic additives and interfere with production. Bentonite can preferentially adsorb these anionic disruptors.
Effect: "Cleanses" the papermaking system, ensuring other chemical additives (e.g., CPAM, sizing agents) work effectively, and improving system cleanliness and operational stability.

If you have a large usage and ton bag feeding equipment, we strongly recommend ton bags with a capacity of 1 ton, which can significantly save you packaging and handling costs per ton and increase unloading efficiency.
